Edited by Jess Redman and Meg Leder: Softies Only a Mother Could Love: Lovable Friends for You to Sew, Knit, or Crochet
They've collected 21 softie patterns from different designers all over the web and put them in one book. All of them are cute and most of them I want to make. One thing about the book that's a bit misleading is its subtitle 'Lovable Friends for You to Sew, Knit, or Crochet'. I only see one rabbit whose body is knitted and nothing that's crocheted. But that leaves 20 little pets to sew.
Linda Kopp: Quilts, Baby!: 20 Cuddly Designs to Piece, Patch & Embroider
I don't make many baby quilts, but the 20 patterns in this book are so extraordinary - no fussy, cutesy, pastel quilts here - that they are a great jumping off point for other projects. I've already got visions in my head of several lap quilts I can make using these projects as springboards.
Betty Barnden: Very Easy Crazy Patchwork
I've done crazy quilting for years, but I'm always happy to pick up a book with new ideas. This book shows several different methods for creating crazy patches and then has great projects to make with them - a bear, bags and purses, a blanket, an album cover, etc. It includes info on fabric selection and embroidery. It would be a great book for a beginner, but even a seasoned crazy patcher will find new inspiration.
Edited by Julie Johnson: Simple Serger Sewing
I picked up this book because it has some very cute purse and tote bag ideas, but it has some truly unattractive clothing ideas. All in all there are 50 projects, so you're bound to find something you like.
Lark Books: Pretty Little Pincushions (Pretty Little Series)
This is the latest addition to my library. It's full of the cutest little pincushions but they all seem to be made of wool or felt or felted wool. So I'm going to have to dig deep into my stash to find appropriate fabrics. Or I could just make them out of whatever catches my fancy.
Julie Collings: Pretty Little Felts: Mixed-Media Crafts To Tickle Your Fancy
This is my latest addition. It has some delicious little gifts made of felt. I can't wait to start on one.
Jeanne Stauffer: 365 Fun-to-Stitch Quilt Blocks
I picked this up at Half Priced Books for $8. There aren't any new patchwork patterns here, but there are some cute projects showing different ways to use individual blocks.
Elisabeth Doherty: Amigurumi!: Super Happy Crochet Cute
This book has some really cute and inspirational amigurumi. I want to make one of the creatures on the cover.
Tomoko Takamori: Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts!: Amigurumi (Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts)
Cute, cute book I just purchased. I haven't tried any of the patterns yet, but they look easy to follow.
Mary Jane Hall: Positively Crochet!: 50 Fashionable Projects and Inspirational Tips
Suzanne Nelson: Fast, Fun and Fabulous Quilts: 30 Terrific Projects from the Country's Most Creative Designers
This has been on my shelf for quite some time and I am currently revisiting it. It's a great book with a wide variety of projects. Well worth the investment.
Vogue Knitting on the Go: Crocheted Scarves Two (Vogue Knitting On The Go)
A new book with more scarf patterns with the same variety and portability of the original.
Trisha Malcolm: Vogue Knitting on the Go: Crocheted Scarves (Vogue Knitting On The Go)
This has some lovely scarves in intresting yarns and textures. It's small enough to easily carry in your tote bag with all your yarn and tools.
Kristen Rask: Plush You!: Lovable Misfit Toys to Sew and Stuff
It's full of wonderful, cute, tacky, imaginative and inspiring stuffed creatures of all kinds with tips for making your own plushies. It's mostly an inspirational gallery and I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a newbie, but if you have some experience sewing stuffed toys it certainly is a inspirational starting point.
Better Homes and Gardens: Grandma's Best Full-Size Quilt Blocks
there are some interesting ideas here, but nothing really new
Aranzi Aronzo: The Cute Book
cute felt mascots in the Japanese tradition
Deena Beverley: Brilliant Bags: 20 Beautiful Bags to Stitch and Love
I have a soft spot for books on making purses and totes - this has many clever designs, but some may be a little too outre for me - there's a Heart Motif Felt Bag I'll try my hand at
Family Circle Easy Accessories: 50 Chic Projects to Knit and Crochet (Family Circle Easy...)
there seem to be more knitting patterns than crochet - but perhaps I'll be inspired to become a better knitter
